Estelí is a quaint, friendly, and great place—just right for learning Spanish by immersion.
Its location in the highlands outside of Managua gives it cool and pleasant weather throughout the year. Small mountains and forests surround the city, so the air is always fresh and clean.
Estelianos are friendly and welcoming, allowing visitors to quickly feel comfortable. Locals welcome the opportunity to talk to visitors and are often as inquisitive about visitors’ lifestyles as visitors are of theirs.
The city is big enough to have plenty to see and do, but small enough to feel comfortable and safe. There are hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, and places to relax and enjoy yourself. Two museums relate to the local history, including the ”Museum of the Heroes and Martyrs,” a tribute to the victims of the civil war in the 80s.
The area around the city offers an abundance of natural attractions including waterfalls and nature reserves. The most popular are the Reserve of Miraflor and the Reserve of Tisey-Estanzuela.
Estelí is home to the most successful football club in Nicaragua, “The Real Estelí”, affectionately known as “The Train of the North” (El Tren del Norte). And there’s a professional baseball team.
